Recently I was looking back over some of the posts we made leading up to our trip to Costa Rica and thought it would be fun to revisit the packing list. I can’t really think of anything we needed, but didn’t have (or couldn’t buy), but I can think of several things we could’ve done without.
It seems like after we pass the 5th or 6th grade we stop being asked, “What did you learn at school today?” That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep asking ourselves. Here’s a photo summary of what I learned in school over the past few months.

Those who try to keep their lives will lose them. But those who give up their lives will save them.
Luke 17:33
There is a rawness and a wonder to life. Pursue it. Hunt for it. Sell out to get it. Don’t listen to the whines of those who have settled for a second-rate life and [...]
It’s official . . . Ryan and I have returned to American soil. We arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio on Wednesday, November 20 at 1:00 am. It was a bittersweet return. It’s great to be back home, but at the same time, we miss the life we had in Costa Rica for three [...]
Jeanna happened to get sick earlier in the week which forced us to change our plans a bit. The good news is that she is feeling much better and I have managed to avoid the sickness, for now. We are heading out of San Jose and going to a place where internet cafes [...]
Ryan and I are still in San Jose. We had a great visit with Ashley. The energy she brought and seeing a familiar face was great for our spirits. The time went by too fast and we were sorry to see her go. She emailed and said she made it home [...]
Well my time as guest poster is about to end. I am leaving for the airport in less than 2 hours. I have had a great week. Jeanna and Ryan are execellent hosts. They were able to compress the best of Costa Rica into one week, which is pretty remarkable given [...]
The Combo Tour that Jeanna mentioned yesterday was quite eventful. We headed out at 6:15 this morning in a minibus. After picking up other travelers at other hotels (2 Canadians, 2 Bostonians, 1 Frenchman) we headed to the crater of Volcan Poas. The postcards prepared us for a beautiful blue-green crater lake [...]
We headed out of Santa Elena this morning on the 6:45am bus to San Jose. The trip was rather uneventful, unless you count the flat tire that the bus got within the first hour and then the excitement of a tourist chasing after the bus because the driver drove off without realizing that someone [...]
Today we got a slightly later start than normal. Evidently, two girls who enjoy muchos fiestas (or as we might say two party animals) have checked into Ana’s hotel. For a number of interesting reasons, that led to us having a later night than we expected. Even though Ana is extremely nice, [...]
